The “Encountering God Through the Arts” group was founded by Fr. Kirk in June 2021, not long after the new parish hall was completed. Fr. Kirk’s intention is to offer quarterly Arts presentations in the parish hall that reflect Catholic art while also spiritually inspiring, educating, and uplifting anyone who might attend these events, whatever their religious beliefs.
The ”Encountering God Through the Arts” group meets once a month on a Sunday from 11:30am to 1:00pm. During the first half of each meeting, we study a Catholic arts selection (from a source book, currently THE CATHOLIC SPIRIT by Michael Bettigole, OSF, & James D. Childs) chosen each month by a different group member.
The second half of each meeting is devoted to suggesting, coordinating, and sharing ideas for upcoming scheduled, as well as future yet-to-be-scheduled, Arts presentations (music, visual arts, etc.) for the upcoming calendar quarters. Among our first sponsored events were an Advent concert by the Colorado Crossroads Youth Orchestra and an Easter Season Choral Concert by the students of Our Lady of Walsingham/Chesterton Academy. We coordinate the details with the leaders of these groups or the individual artist and help them plan the program.
If you love the arts and want to be involved with sharing them with the St. Gabriel community and beyond, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Linda Popolano, [email protected], 719-528-8407.
